SoftSand rubber particles introduced as new additive for textured wall paints and non skid floor paints.

Wilmington, DE March 7, 2004--SoftPoint Industries today announced the availability of SoftSandŽ, colored rubber particles for paints and coatings.     As the name implies, these one-of-a-kind particles are exceptionally soft, since they are formulated from rubber, and approximately the size of a grain of sand. These particles can be added directly to conventional floor paints to create a foot-friendly, decorative, non-skid surface. SoftSand particles were originally developed as a soft, decorative aggregate for the seamless flooring industry. To date, SoftSand rubber has been used successfully in industrial and commercial flooring applications where pedestrian comfort, chemical resistance, and good adhesion of the particle to the resin system are required.

SoftSand colored rubber particles are fully cured (vulcanized) elastomeric particles that are carefully ground and screened to meet certain particle size requirements. SoftSand particles are made from a specially formulated elastomeric compound that is designed to have several unique features. These include excellent adhesion to urethane, epoxy and acrylic coating systems. SoftSand particles are also non-staining, and are designed to have a superior combination of weather ability, solvent resistance, and abrasion resistance. And since the pigments used to color SoftSand particles are thoroughly mixed into the rubber compound before curing, consistent coloring throughout the rubber particle is ensured.

SoftSand rubber particles are designed for use in most floor coating applications. These include marine areas such as boat decks, outdoor patios and balconies, as well as household areas like garage floors, pool decks, and basements. Since the particles are compatible with most urethane, epoxy and acrylic coatings, they can be used on most any surface appropriate for these resins, including concrete, wood, fiberglass, steel, etc. In addition to floor coatings, SoftSand particles are an ideal texturizing agent for paints in decorative applications. SoftSand is currently available in five colors: White; Brick Red; Gray; Green; and Black. SoftSand rubber is sold in ˝ pint containers for $9.95, pint containers for $16.95 and quart containers for $29.95.

Although the amount of material required will vary, it can be used as a direct replacement for other aggregates (on a volume basis).
